Pretentious

Patrice Sinclair has mastered the art of moving effortlessly through the glittering world of wealth, charm, and curated perfection, until she sees it for what it actually is. After a series of encounters with captivating but shallow men, and a quietly devastating experience of humiliation, Patrice stops absorbing disappointment and starts to observe it. Her response is an anonymous, razor-sharp novel that holds a mirror up to the narcissism, vanity, and performative sensitivity of the elite. When the book becomes a sensation, outrage and recognition ripple through high society, exposing uncomfortable truths that no one can deny. Pretentious is a stylish, incisive, and darkly funny novel about power, perception, and the moment that a woman stops trying to be chosen and decides to do something about it.
