Synopsis
With speeches, poems, and letters, including The Wedding of Pocahontas and an excerpt from The Federalist Papers, this book uses primary sources and activities to help teach important fluency strategies. Students will discover the the famous figures and events of colonial America including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and the American Revolution to name a few. Develped by Dr. Timothy Rasinski, these activities are designed develop fluent and meaningful oral reading, as well as vocabulary and word decoding skills. Each text includes a history connection, a vocabulary connection, and extension ideas to meet the diverse needs of every student in the social studies classroom.
About Shell Education
Rachelle Cracchiolo started the company with a friend and fellow teacher. Both were eager to share their ideas and passion for education with other classroom leaders. What began as a hobby, selling lesson plans to local stores, became a part-time job after a full day of teaching, and eventually blossomed into Teacher Created Materials. About the Author
Jennifer Prior, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor for Early Childhood and Literacy at Northern Arizona University. Her focus is using environmental print as an instructional literacy tool, family involvement in education, and effective teaching practices.
