Pp. iii, 265; numerous text-figures (line-drawings, black-and-white photos, cladograms, graphs). Original printed yellow wrappers, lettered in brown on the spine and front cover, lg 8vo. This volume is based on a symposium entitled "Evolution and Diversification of the Postcranium in Primates" which was held at the Fifty-Sixth Annual Meetings of the American Association of Physical Anthropologists in New York on April 4, 1987. The purpose of the symposium was to address the relationship between the acquisition of novel locomotor strategies and the origin and radiation of major groups of primates. The volume contains 10 chapters by notable authorities on the field; the titles of four papers follow: Evolution of Hallucial Grasping in the primates; Implications of postcranial evidence for the origin of euprimates; Adaptive diversification of Malagasy strepsirrhines; and Relative joint size and hominoid locomotor adaptations with implications for the evolution of hominid bipedalism. This work is reprinted from Journal of Human Evolution, volume 17, no. 1/2 (1988). No ownership marks and few signs of use. A bright and clean copy in near fine condition.
