Princess

During a vacation trip in Spain with her husband, Prince Charles, Princess Diana is abducted by Basque terrorists, and two agents--one British, one Spanish--race against time to find her

A runaway bestseller in Britain, this thriller moves media darling Diana, Princess of Wales, from supermarket checkout racks to bookstore shelves. On an informal motorcycle outing with Spain's King Juan Carlos, Diana is abducted by Basque terrorists, who threaten to kill her if their demands are not met in five days. Spanish and English authorities mount a top-secret rescue operation, installing a Spanish look-alike "Princess." Playboyish Inspector Julio Martinez teams with dour James Decker, taken from deep cover in Ireland, to follow slim leads in Madrid while the look-alike keeps up appearances and the real, captive Di gets a clue to her rescuers. Readers may learn something new about ETA, the leftist Basque organization, but will garner little more about Charles and Di than the gossip already available in the gushier tabloids. First serial to Redbook.

While on a visit to Spain the Princess of Wales is abducted by ETA, the Basque terrorist/separatist organization, which threatens to execute her unless its political demands are met. Since the kidnapping took place late at night while she was riding on the pillion of a motorcycle driven by the Spanish king, the governments of Spain and the United Kingdom find themselves facing a tricky Di-lemma. A special rescue team consisting of a Spanish antiterrorist and a Britsh SAS undercover specialist is assembled to rescue the Princess before the deadline. The story of the predictably successful quest is a virtual genre parody that employs a host of hackneyed plot devices and wooden characters. Even the most dedicated royal watcher will be disappointed with this skimpy potboiler. First serial to Redbook .
