About this title

Synopsis

The Princess Of Cumberland's Statement To The English Nation, As To Her Application To Ministers by Olivia Wilmot Serres. This work presents the memoirs and accompanying documents of Olive Wilmot, Princess Olive of Cumberland, detailing her claim to royal birth and hereditary rights. It combines narrative, letters, affidavits, and certificates to argue that Olive is the legitimate daughter of the Duke of Cumberland and Olive his wife, and thus the rightful Princess Olive of Cumberland. The text traces her early life under the guardianship of Doctor Wilmot, the social and political intrigues surrounding her status, and the range of correspondence with ministers, including Lord Sidmouth, Lord Eldon, and others, seeking official recognition and redress. It compiles dramatic episodes, such as the 1789 Barton-upon-Heath robbery, the defense of her birth-right, and the long campaign to obtain legal and parliamentary acknowledgment of her birth and circumstances. The description culminates in a plea for justice and public validation of her rights, through affidavits and state papers presented to the Crown and Parliament.
