This book is a Looking Glass Library, volume 3 of the 1959-60 series of 28 classic English Literature titles, newly illustrated. Not ex-library. This collectible volume is in very good condition. There is some shelf wear on the top and bottom cover edges. The spine has a small (1/8th inch) top section missing. The front cover illustration depicts a girl ascending steps. The rear cover illustration depicts a boy and a girl with a goblin. The spine has the title and author along with a drawing of a gnome. There are a few black and white illustrations throughout. Inside the front cover someone has written their name in blue ink. The pages are tanned due to age but are otherwise clean and unmarked. Macdonald is known as the father of modern fantasy, and he used scientific, pagan, and Christian references. 249 pp. Shelf: W.
