Frontispiece only. Beautiful etching, clean impression. Mounted at corners to large plain leaf. Suitable for framing, or perhaps mating with another copy. Illustrates title on a large stone, with shepherds at right and animals in foreground. From a series of eight prints dedicated to Don Ferdinando Afan de Ribera, the Spanish Viceroy in Naples. Pieter van Laer (c1592-1642), Dutch landscape and genre painter. He was nicknamed Il Bamboccio (puppet) due to a body deformity. Though his style of painting was at first disdained by fellow Italian painters, his works later became very desirable and van Laer was overall very successful and influential, his followers became known as the Bamboccianti.
