Principles of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering

"This book presents a balanced, objective exploration of the technology behind biological processes, and the application of this technology in the study of basic building blocks of body, growth and cultivation of plants and animal cells. The book describes the techniques of genetics and molecular biology in understanding the principles of genetics, genomic functions and gene expression in a clear and lucid manner. The techniques of biotechnology such as recombinant DNA technology, bioinformatics, plant and animal cell culture have been dealt with in detail in this book. The practical implications of these techniques such as how are genetic manipulation implemented, how it benefits, and what are the broader issues regarding the use of this technology, have been explained using appropriate examples. The book is useful for advanced undergraduates and postgraduates in the biological sciences studying genetics and biotechnology as a stand-alone unit or as part of a broader course. It will also be of interest to Ph. D students working in the areas of genetic engineering and biotechnology."
