About this title

Synopsis

This comprehensive text covers principles and applications with an emphasis on the theoretical modeling of combustion. Addresses chemical thermodynamics and kinetics, conservation equations for multi-component reacting flows, deflagration and detonation waves, premixed laminar flames, spray combustion of fuel droplets, ignition, and related topics. Many examples are included to demonstrate the application of theory. Emphasizes the use of digital computers for solutions.

From the Back Cover

The long-awaited new edition of the leading resource on combustion engineering

The definitive volume on combustion engineering for nearly two decades, Principles of Combustion has now been thoroughly revised and expanded to address major advances in the field in recent years. This Second Edition offers a thorough treatment of the essentials of chemically reacting flow systems, with broad applications in such areas as power generation, jet and rocket propulsion, household and industrial heating, fire prevention and safety, pollution control, and materials processing.

Emphasizing theoretical modeling for analytical or numerical solutions, this book covers chemical thermodynamics and kinetics, conservation equations for multicomponent reacting systems, deflagration and detonation waves, premixed laminar flames, gaseous diffusion flames and combustion of fuel droplets, and related topics. This Second Edition features:

• New theoretical results as well as measurement techniques of nonintrusive diagnostic methods
• Additional material on chemical kinetics during ignition
• Greater depth of coverage on sensitivity analysis and methods for identifying controlling chemical mechanisms
• The latest results regarding turbulent activity during combustion and the chemical kinetics of flames
• Expanded selection of examples to demonstrate real-world applications
• New emphasis on the use of digital computers for solutions

Enhanced with more than 300 drawings, tables, and photographs—as well as extensive appendixes—this classic text offers a complete reference on combustion processes for the next generation of professionals and students in the areas of mechanical, chemical, and aerospace engineering.
