The plates are made longer (360mm) so that each plate could be unfolded and the reader could return to the part of the text described in a figure in the plate and have the complete illustration available without going back and forth. Bound in full, thick leather, with raised bands and decorated spine. I believe that some time ago the book was slightly repaired to made the spine stronger. (I think!) In any even the book is very strong, and bright, with good full margins. The title page is a bit rough, but advancing from that, the book is on the lovely side. [++] The drawings are terrific they are both very detailed and somehow spare at the same time. The topics are very wide and beautifully described. Some of the machines and instruments described: air pump, artificial fountains, blowing wheel, barometer, bellows, clocks, cranes, endless screw, fire engines for coal pits, gun powder mill, horse mill, lifting stock, pile engines, musical organs, sail chariots, thermometer, slitting mill, pumps, wind mills, twisting mill, and much more.
