Item description from seller

New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1884. J.S. Mill (1806-1873), philosopher and political economist, was one of the leading intellectual lights of the 19th Century and remains relevant today. His book on political economy was first published in England (1848) and reprinted in America beginning in the 1860s. These are two volumes from the edition of 1884; Volume One is Very Good (Plus), and Volume Two is Very Good (Minus). Brown pebbled cloth bindings, ruled in black with gilt lettering on the spine. Clean texts; 661 pages, with Appendix, and 603 pages, with three pages of publisher's adverts. The text is bright and still quite readable. Unfortunately, Volume II has seen water in its life, causing some discoloring of the lower quarter of the boards (not affecting the spine). Otherwise a very sound set, with very minimal rubbing or bumping. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Rep[rint. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket.
