Octavo (8-1/4 x 5-1/2"; 20.9 x 14 cm). Later cloth, calf lettering pieces to spine, endpapers renewed. Light shelfwear, light fading to spine, owner stamps to edges. Light toning to interiors, partial crack in text block between pp. 720-721 of Volume I, early owner signatures, "W I Heddens", to title pages. A very good set. $150. * A seminal 19th-century text that provides a comprehensive exploration of the intersection of medicine and law, serving as a leading authority in the field during its time. Taylor's work was highly influential and instrumental in establishing and codifying the field of medical jurisprudence, known today as forensic medicine or forensic science. It was praised for its clarity, breaking down complex medical and legal issues into understandable terms for both medical and legal professionals. The inclusion of numerous case studies and analyses made it a practical guide for its contemporary audience. Taylor was the leading authority on the subject of medical jurisprudence. His works did much to establish and codify the field. The ownership signature on the title pages appears to be "W I Heddens", and is very likely that of Dr William Irving Heddens (1828-1891), President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons in St. Joseph, Missouri.…
