When the present fork was first projected, it was intended to con sist merely of an Atlas of Plates, with explanatory letter-press. Circum stances, however, afterwards arose, which caused those more directly interested in its success to wish that it might be extended into the form of a treatise and experience has proved that they were not deceived in their anticipations, since nearly six thousand copies have already passed through the hands of the Publisher in London.
