Principles and Procedures of Plant Breeding

Covering traditional and emerging breeding procedures, this book explores the scientific bases and details of breeding plans. It reviews the history of the development of plant breeding methods, examines their current status, and explores the potential for further refinements in light of the latest developments in molecular biology. Principles and Procedures of Plant Biotechnological and Conventional Approaches describes the genetic concepts for an interface of basic and applied aspects of biometrical genetics, particularly its utilization in molecular biology. Highlights include specific breeding methods in self and cross-pollinated crops, concepts and techniques of tissue culture, molecular approaches to crop improvement, production of transgenic plants, commonly used experimental designs in plant breeding, seed production, and implications of plant breeders' rights.
