Print Style: Hand-printed Patterns for Home Decoration

Make unique hand-painted fabrics, wall coverings, cards, wrapping paper, and bedspreads. Try printing fishes, blocks, trees, soldiers, and much more with a potato. Illustrated instructions take you through each step, from initial design to color selection, to the actual print. More advanced techniques of block (lino-cut) printing, resist printing, silk-screening, and mixed styles give alternate methods to explore. A myriad of templates make it easy to master the motifs and inspire you to create your own, for a stamp of originality around your home.

Few print technique books present themselves in such a straightforward, accessible manner as this work by Hinchcliffe and Barber, both professional printers of home furnishing accessories. The explanations of the potato, block, and silk-screen printing of textiles and paper and the resist dyeing of textiles could use more step-by-step instructions, but there is enough information to let amateurs get started printing.
