Olive-green ribbed cloth, lettered and bordered in gilt, top edge in gilt, deckled edges. xiv,236 pp., illus. w/ b&w plates. Horizontal scratch/slit to cloth extends across mid front cover and spine panel, causing slight puckering to cloth, essentially a mild cosmetic defect, otherwiise Near Fine with only light shelf wear. No indication of printing, but copyrighted 1900, thus suggesting that this 1904 issue is an early reprint rather than a first. Ancient relief processes, printing in Europe, invention of typography, early printing presses, Caxton, typesetting, history of the printing press, newspaper printing, stereotyping and electrotyping, half-tone and line plates, papyrus, parchment and vellum, paper, ink, bookbinding, etc. Indexed. Scarce. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
