Rare contrefaçon hollandaise du célèbre texte de Milton écrit en réponse à l'Apologie de Saumaise, et publiée la même année que l'originale de Londres. Cette 'Défense du Peuple Anglais', "traduite dans toutes les langues de l'Europe, fit grand bruit et fut même brûlée par le Châtelet de Paris, à l'instigation des prêtres, preuve de la sensation qu'elle produisit en France où il semble que de tous temps ces sortes de condamnations aient été l'apanage des bons livres" (Larousse).
