A "Review of the Six Great Modern Scientists: Darwin, Tyndall, Huxley, Haeckel, Helmholtz, and Mayer, Upon Evolution, Spontaneous Generation, the Nature of Force, &c., &c." Whew! The author, Alexander Wilford Hall (1819-1902), has a well-respected place in the Medical Quackery section of American intellectual history. He wrote on many topics but was most interested in the relation between science and religion. He eventually came down on the side of the "fallacy of the microbe theory," believing that any disease could be cured through a sufficient number of enemas. He is not much known today but his intellectual inheritance certainly can be recognized. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of a Later Printing (the original version was published in 1877). Brown decorative cloth binding. Stamped in the blind and filled with black and gilt. Clean, fresh text; 524 pages, with one page of adverts for Hall's other works and three pages of "press opinions." Mild rubbing at the margins and a discolored spot on the rear panel; no dustjacket. Fascinating! Size: 8vo - over 7�" - 9�" tall. Seller Inventory # 001835
