Original publisher's gray paper wrappers. Black lettering on front cover. Laid in front is a folding "Map of San Francisco, Showing the Grand Procession of the Knights Templar Triennial Conclave, August 20th, 1883." 6" x 9." Sixty-four pages, complete. Pages are very clean and intact except for light age toning, occasional annotations, and occasional smudges or spots of darkening. Front and back covers are present, but front is almost completely loose, front has the upper corner of fore-edge missing, "A. [--?] Hubbard, Oakland Commandary, [--?] [--?], K. T." is written in ink on front, both have much smudging and darkening, and there is chipping and splitting along spine. A Good copy. This pamphlet contains the proceedings of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of the State of California for the 20th Annual Conclave originally held at San Francisco's Masonic Temple on April 12, 1878. The "Grand Officers" of the California Grand Commandery are listed by name. Grand Commander Hiram Throop Graves gives introductory remarks about recent news and the passing of one of the organization's members. Graves notes official business matters such as receiving communications, the appointments of several individuals to Grand Commandery positions, granting a dispensation, and granting permission to another Commandery. Graves notes other Commanderies in the region such as El Dorado Commandery, Chico Commandery, and San Jose Commandery. Graves also wishes for Commandery meetings to use proper verbiage such as "opening" and "closing" instead of "resume labor" and "adjourn." Following Graves's remarks are the proceedings of the Annual Conclave. The proceedings include remarks by other members and references to related business matters. Beginning on Page 25 are various rules and by-laws as amended in April 1878 (if they were amended) such as the Statutes of the California Grand Commandery Rules of Order, and Form of By-Laws for Subordinate Commanderies. Following this are the Returns of the Subordinate Commanderies, List of Subordinate Commanderies, names of other Representatives and Grand Officers, and a statistical table relating to the Grand Commanderies (from different states) for a variety of years between 1876 and 1878.
