However, the character who had kidnapped Marqu�s was, without a doubt, a professional, and not only in terms of literature. The whole kidnap operation seemed to be executed by someone extremely familiar with violence and simulation. Like the real, imminent danger threatening the king in a chess game, the Professor devises an intricate plan to regain his son, in an almost suicidal attempt to win the game against one of the best players of his kind. His contender, furious, puts into practice his usual tactics, successful so many times in the past. With the characteristic coldness of an individual whose actions are conceived through pain, this ingenious man conceives a near-impossible plan. Will he, an academic man of language, be able to defeat the giant, hoping for the same luck that David enjoyed when facing Goliath, well-equipped with his immense power?

Roberto Luque Escalona naci� en Holgu�n, en la regi�n oriental de Cuba. En 1990 public�, en M�xico, su primer libro, conocido con los siguientes t�tulos: Los ni�os y el tigre, Fidel: el juicio de la historia de Cuba y The Tiger and the Children (versi�n traducida al ingl�s). Este ensayo sobre la historia de Cuba (1492�1989), le vali� ingresar en el club m�s exclusivo que existe (s�lo tiene cinco miembros: Djilas, Pasternak, Solzhenitzin y Havel, los dos primeros ya muertos), cuyos autores se dedicaron a escribir y publicar material contra el comunismo, cuando viv�an bajo este r�gimen.

En 1991 public� sus primeros trabajos, en uno de los peri�dicos de Miami. Al a�o siguiente se exili� en dicha ciudad y, en 1993 public� Yo, el mejor de todos, una biograf�a de Che Guevara. Sus art�culos comenzaron a aparecer regularmente en los diarios de Miami y, ya en un semanario, desde diciembre de 1995, continuando hasta hoy.
