Collaboration Data Objects (CDO) is a technology that is used for applications that involve information sharing and flow processes. CDO is a scripting interface to MAPI (Messaging Application Programming Interface), introduced in Outlook 98. Prior to the availability of CDO, programming messaging from ASP application required you to buy components. Messaging components have been the top selling components for ASP developers for the last 2 years. This is part of Microsoft's attack on Lotus Domino/Notes which has previously provided a more powerful programming environment for collaborative applications than MS Exchange. CDO is particularly attractive because of its ability to integrate with Office and BackOffice/ASP applications.
