A textbook that Hackney (Syracuse U.) and Cormier (West Virginia U.) have revised from earlier editions between 1987 and 1996 to reflect changes both in the profession and in society as a whole. They explain the structure of counseling as stage-driven, survey types of counseling intervention, and describe the process of termination and follow-up from the context of client welfare. A new chapter on counseling clients in crisis replaces one on unique situations.
