Professional Development In Biology 3 Revised edition

Professional Development in Biology: Strategies for Success bridges the gap between students' previous learning experiences and the new expectations they face as college students. The text equips readers with the tools they need to succeed in college and prepare for their future careers in the health care industry.

The first chapter of the book addresses the transition from high school to college. Additional chapters introduce students to skillsets that are critical for their academic achievement, including taking responsibility for their actions, practicing effective time management, nurturing their passion, learning how to ask for help, and building their self-awareness and understanding. Students explore tenets of professionalism, learn how to become a competitive applicant for professional schools, and the importance of ethics and diversity within the modern workforce.

The third edition includes new research and citations to bring the information up-to-date and also explores new career tracks in biology. The final chapter on ethics and diversity is completely new.

Professional Development in Biology is an ideal textbook for freshmen and transfer students within biology programs. It can also be used by students preparing for advanced study in medical, dental, or pharmacological programs.

Letina Banks has a Ph.D. in higher education, master's degree in science education from Nova Southeastern University, and bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Mobile. She is an academic advisor in the School of Nursing and an instructor of biology at Florida A&M University. Dr. Banks created and implemented the Advising Program for Biology at Florida A&M, an initiative which has significantly reduced student dropout rates. The program also inspired Florida A&M faculty to develop a course called Professional Development in Biology, which has increased student enrollment in the biology department and ensures students are well prepared for their academic career and beyond.
