This book summarizes the findings of several research projects on high-speed Overhead Catenary Systems (OCS). It covers the system's functions, key components and failure modes, as well as reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety metrics, along with methods for component-level design and system-level reliability allocation. It also presents dynamic models and simulation analyses for single and double pantograph operations, introduces exogenous failure prediction under conditions such as lightning, strong wind, and haze, and explores endogenous fault and risk prediction using Bayesian networks. Additionally, it outlines availability assessment methods based on Markov processes and stochastic Petri nets, and proposes health management strategies focused on optimizing maintenance and inspection cycles.
Yu Long, is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Electrical Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University. He has been engaged in teaching and research on intelligent operation and maintenance of traction power supply for a long time, and is a visiting scholar at the University of Birmingham, UK, between 2019 and 2020. Prof. Yu Long has a deep understanding of the theories of high-speed railroad bow network relationship and contact network RAMS assessment, and has successfully applied them in engineering practice, solving many technical problems in high-speed railroad bow network operation and maintenance, and has won one second prize of national scientific and technological progress, and one special prize of scientific and technological progress of the China Railway Society; he has published one monograph; and has published more than 70 theses, of which 34 are SCI/EI indexed; He has obtained 4 authorized invention patents, 4 utility model patents and 1 software copyright.
