under direction of Robert Breen. New York, Everyman Opera [1952]. 4to. Introduction reproduces a Dwight D. Eisenhower letter dated March 30, 1953. 28 pages including outer printed covers. Gershwin (1898-1937), American composer of theatrical and film scores (often with his brother Ira); also known for his semiclassical, jazz-influenced orchestral works ("Rhapsody in Blue," 1924; "An American in Paris," 1928), and his innovative folk opera "Porgy and Bess" (1935); won first Pulitzer Prize for a musical ("Of Thee I Sing," 1931).
