Progressive Quartets for Strings: 32 Quartets That Can be Played by Any Combination of String Instruments

Chamber music is an essential part of leaning to play an instrument, and these versatile quartets are written so that they can be performed by any combination of four string instruments. Arranged by prominent string pedagogue Doris Gazda, these pieces will sound full and satisfying with only four players all the way up to a full string orchestra. The selection of music in this collection covers a wide variety of musical styles that will provide hours of enjoyment and performance options. Progressively organized by level of difficulty as the performers advance in their skills, these quartets are a welcome addition to the repertoire of all string players.

"This two-volume series is extremely useful in any type of performance situation, with books available for all four instruments playable in any combination. Gazda has arranged popular tunes ("Home on the Range," "There's Music in the Air"), opera arias, and folk tunes into quartets. Pieces and displayed in the books in four parts. An excellent tool for performances for recruitment, recitals, or the board of education, or in the community, school lobby, and more. A fantastic addition to any school or studio library!" -- J.A.S. --American String Teacher, February 2013

"This chamber music compilation can be played by any combination of string instruments. It includes traditional folk and fiddle tunes as well as works by Mozart, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, and Mendelssohn. Each book (violin, viola, cello, bass) contains the four parts needed to play these works as a quartet. This would be a great resource for string ensembles with unbalanced number in each section. This versatile compilation could also be used as a gig book and to improve sightreading skills." --The Instrumentalist, January 2013
