Project Management for Engineers

Project Management for Engineers, as the title suggests, is a direct attempt at addressing the ever-increasing and specific needs for better project management of engineering students, practicing engineers and managers in the industry. It aims not only to present the principles and techniques of Project Management, but also to discuss project management standards, processes and requirements, such as Pmbok, Ieee and Prince. Each chapter begins with the basics of the theme being developed at a level understandable to an undergraduate, before more complex topics are introduced at the end of each section that are suitable for graduate students. For the practicing professionals or managers in the industry, the book also provides many real illustrations of practical application of the principles of Project Management. Through a realistic blend of theory and practical examples, as well as an integration of the engineering technical issues with business issues, this book seeks to remove the veil of mystery that has shrouded the profession from its very beginning.

Dr. J. Michael Bennett was the Associate Dean of Engineering at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT). Prior to this, he was the Program Director of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Western Ontario (UWO). He developed the Software Engineering Programs at UOIT and UWO, and led both programs to multiple CEAB certifications. He also worked with UWO and Cisco authorities to build the CCNA router laboratory at UWO. Before introducing Software Engineering to UWO, he was a professor at the Department of Computer Science. He has also taught at the University of Ottawa, the Institute for Government Informatics Professionals, Motorola University, and IMPAC University. His research areas include software engineering, software metrics, project management, computer communications, operating system, numerical analysis, etc. Throughout his academic career, he received over $2.34 million in research and industrial grants for over 20 projects. Dr. Bennett has supervised over 30 graduate students and over 40 undergraduate students, published many books, articles, and scientific papers. He also served as a contributor on 12 refereed ISO standards submissions. He is currently a member of the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) and a Project Management Professional (PMP).

Mr. Danny Siu Kau HO is an independent management consultant and adviser for two startup companies. Prior to this, he held senior management and technical positions at Motorola Canada Limited, Nortel Networks Corporation, and IBM Canada Limited. He has also been appointed as an Adjunct Research Professor at the Department of Software Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, the University of Western Ontario (UWO). Throughout his professional career, he has led programs in the areas of wire-line, RF and infrared development; eMarketing, mCommerce, desktop application deployment, reuse, and software development environment. He is the co-owner of two patents on neuro-fuzzy system for estimation His areas of special interest include software estimation, project management, objectoriented software development, and complexity analysis. Danny received his Honours Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with Electrical Engineering, and Master of Science in Computer Science from UWO. He is currently a member of the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) and a Project Management Professional (PMP).
