David I. Cleland, Ph.D. is Professor Emeritus in the School of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. He is the author/editor of 36 books in the field of Project management and Engineering Management. Dr. Cleland was elected a Fellow of the Project Management Institute (PMI) in 1988. He has received PMI's Distinguished Contribution to Project Management Award three times. In 1997, he was honored with the establishment of the "David I. Cleland Excellence in Project Management Literature Award," sponsored by PMI. Dr. Cleland does consulting and conducts training programs in project management around the world.
Lewis R. Ireland, Ph.D. is an Executive Project Management Consultant based in Tennessee and serving both U. S. and international clients. He is past President and Chair of the Project Management Institute and a 20-year veteran of PMI. He has been recognized by PMI for his contributions by the Distinguished Contribution Award, Person of the Year, and elected a Fellow of the Institute. He currently serves as President of the American Society for the Advancement of Project Management, a professional society dedicated to better project management practices.
