What Was MKUltra?

Operating under the codename MKUltra, the program employed hundreds of researchers across universities, hospitals, prisons, and clandestine laboratories across the United States and Canada.
Unwitting subjects - ordinary men and women who never consented - were administered LSD and other powerful psychoactive substances. Others were subjected to electroconvulsive therapy, sensory deprivation, hypnosis, psychological torture, and elaborate behavioral conditioning techniques. The goal was chilling in its ambition: to find a way to override human free will, to break down the self, and to rebuild consciousness according to an external design.
