Print on Demand. This book analyzes the prologues Terence wrote for his comedies, focusing on the devices he employed to persuade his audience. Terence, a Roman playwright of the 2nd century BC, faced hostility from other playwrights who accused him of plagiarism. To combat this, he crafted prologues that served as pre-emptive defenses against these accusations, arguing his case directly to the audience. By examining the evolution of Terence's prologues, from the Andria to the Adelphoe, the author traces the development of the prologue as a literary form. This innovative study uncovers the significance of these prologues in shaping the reception of Terence's work, providing valuable insights into the theatrical culture of ancient Rome. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

For this reason, we kindly ask that you double-check the title, edition, and your shipping details before placing an order.
If you change your mind after ordering, you are welcome to return the book once it arrives, and a refund will be issued in accordance with AbeBooks’ return policy.
