I have not been able to find out much about Rudolf Schaefer, other than he was an artist known for popular folk art and religious illustrations. He was quite accomplished, as we can see from the picture reproduced on the cover of this flyer. It is a lovely image, and one can understand his popularity, even though he has been lost to the mists of time.

"Prof. D Rudolf Schaefers Bilderwerke" is a slim brochure - no more than a folded sheet - a flyer - a list of art works presented in various ways as issued by Gustav Schloessmann's Verlagsbuchhandlung, in Leipzig and Hamburg sometime in the 1930s. Listed as available in various formats are Confirmation Cards, Individual Pictures, and Post Cards. It seems the pictures were available in various sizes, ie: in popular editions or in larger gift edition.

It's a fine, lovely piece of German ephemera from that country's art publishing industry. The image of a boy and a girl exchanging gifts is beautiful, and quite poignant. The boy presents what seems to be a flower, while he is crowned with a wreath of flowers by the girl. They are perched on a rock atop a small hill in a field.
