Prompt Responses: A Collection of Prose and Poetry

Prompt Responses is a rich collection of poetry and prose from a
talented group of writers based in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Yet it
would be a mistake to think of this anthology as merely ‘local.’ True it
contains pieces - vibrant, moving and often humorous - set in familiar
landscapes and childhood memories rooted in this region. Some writers
use fiction to explore universal themes such as friendship, late
romance, marital compromise, Alzheimer’s. But Prompt Responses also
offers writing set in other worlds and other periods; a piece that
thrums with dark echoes of fairytales, a ghost story set on a council
estate, the contents of a handbag, a troll struggling with English. As
if that wasn’t enough, sitting alongside this imaginative banquet is
non-fiction including subjects such as people-watching at airports and
memoirs.

Do pick up this collection and tuck in. Many narratives are here to be
explored and vividly- drawn characters are waiting to meet you.

This is writing - entertaining, thoughtful and sometimes experimental in
its perspectives - which defies that artificial divide between amateur
and professional.
