136 pp.[Genuineness] + 288 pp. Gospels commentary, in orig. black blindblocked cloth case, spine repaired and pretty good for age, ex-Aberdare college lib. with presentation plate from Archdeacon of Monmouth, and later from Llandaff Cathedral library. A refutation of the Strauss, Tubingen school and de Wette Gospel scepticism but appreciation of Tholuck + Synoptic Gospel ; commentary vol.1 (of 4) of Synoptics to Matt.9. A rare early English edition of a German text, where one German conservative confutes and outmanoeuveres other German radicals. This book shows the tension in German appraches to the New Testament in first half of C19. Size: 8vo.
