Prophet of Little Egypt

A dead body and a golf ball are discovered along the Ohio River in Southern Illinois. "Death of the Prophet" announces the front-page headline. An investigation leads to arrests; a special assistant attorney general prosecutes the culprits. The attorneys, judge, and jurors must piece their way through a death caught between an accident and a murder. Varga's absurd satire rounds up the usual suspects of law, science, and politics but expands to commercialism, racism, and just about any individual, group, belief, or behavior that can be packed into a story. All the while, two outsiders talk about life over payday dinners at the bar and grill, only to stumble onto a wobbly way home. Prophet of Little Egypt is the sequel to Atticus from Shawneetown (2024) and Tombs of Little Egypt (2022) in the Little Egypt trilogy.
