PROTECTING VALUE
Protecting organisational value through good governance, resilience and intelligent risk.
Not everything can be protected equally. The leadership challenge is knowing what matters most.
Every organisation depends upon things it cannot afford to lose.
Critical capabilities. Key relationships. Essential services. Information. Reputation. People. Infrastructure. Supply chains. Trust. Sometimes even the freedom to make choices that have not yet been needed.
Yet resources are finite, priorities compete and conditions change.
For leaders, the challenge is therefore not simply to prevent things from going wrong.
It is deciding what must continue to work, what can be allowed to fail, what must recover quickly—and where protection creates the greatest organisational value.
Organisations build controls, policies, safeguards and layers of assurance to protect themselves from harm. But more control does not necessarily mean more protection.
Controls can become habitual. Assurance can create confidence without capability. Resources can be concentrated on what is easiest to measure while critical dependencies remain exposed. And yesterday's priorities can continue consuming attention long after the organisation's sources of value have changed.
Protecting Value is about looking beyond the existence of controls to ask what they protect, why it matters and whether the organisation will actually be able to withstand disruption when protection is tested.
The fourth volume in the Intelligent Risk Series, it brings together 100 questions, provocations and reflections designed to help leaders examine what creates and sustains value, understand critical dependencies and exposure, challenge existing safeguards and strengthen organisational resilience.
This is not a technical manual or a catalogue of controls.
It is about making deliberate choices about what matters before circumstances make those choices for you.
This is not a book that needs to be read from beginning to end.
Open it anywhere.
Bring one page into an executive or governance meeting. Use another to challenge whether a control still protects something that matters. Put a question to a leadership or project team before adding another safeguard. Take one into a strategy or resilience discussion when protection, continuity and recovery are being treated as separate problems. Return when assurance says everything is working but something important still feels exposed.
Some pages may strengthen the protection already in place.
Others may reveal that the wrong thing is being protected.
Because protecting an organisation does not mean protecting everything. It means knowing what matters most—and building the capacity to preserve it when conditions change.

Store description
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
