The Proverbs Of Alfred

The Proverbs of Alfred is a book written by Walter W. Skeat that contains a collection of proverbs attributed to King Alfred the Great, who ruled England in the 9th century. The book is divided into two parts, the first of which provides a historical and literary background to the proverbs, while the second part presents the proverbs themselves, along with their translations and explanations. The proverbs cover a wide range of topics, including wisdom, morality, religion, politics, and everyday life. Some of the proverbs are well-known, while others are more obscure, but all of them provide insight into the worldview of one of England's greatest kings. The book is a valuable resource for scholars of medieval literature, history, and culture, as well as for anyone interested in the wisdom of the past. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
