Tight American pocket edition of two titles by the English minister and hymn writer Isaac Watts printed by John I. Williams. Watts is renowned for his contribution to English Hymnody by adding new poetry to original Christian verse as well as his rendition of Psalms for church services to be "imitated in the language of the New Testament." (Stephen Marini). His hymns are still in use today and have been translated into other languages. Contains tables to find Psalms and Hymns by the first line in both titles. Binding with some wear along edges and rubbed, gilt on spine fading. Occasional small chips and tears and creasing at corners of block. Some age toning and foxing throughout. A diminutive volume of two books bound together (322 pps and 282 pps) complete, unmarked and presenting ochre page edges, occasionla page crner folds, a few small closed tears but whole and complete. This bound edition is contemporary (1820s) and measures 10 cm high, 6 cm across and 3.3 cm thick, with gilt spinal tooling in brown calf.
