The Psychedelic Nietzsche

What is the role of psychedelically-induced mystical experiences in the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche? In Ancient Greece, there were held Eleusinian Mysteries, during which it is now widely accepted a psychedelic drink was taken before the ceremonies. It appears Nietzsche knew this, and it makes up a major part of the reason he admired the Ancient culture so much. In this piece, I argue that the psychedelic experience can lead to the implementation of much of Nietzsche’s philosophy. Predominantly, through psychedelically induced mystical experience, we can overcome the ascetic Christian culture that provides the bedrock for much of the world. Asceticism is another means for inducing, as well as psychedelics, mystical experiences. However, asceticism requires a denial of life, a denial of the will. By having the mystical experience through psychedelic instead of ascetic means, we can move away from the life denying culture that provides the foundation of the lives of many. With a psychedelic renaissance currently taking place, we must begin to study in philosophy the psychedelic experience, what it is, and how it will affect our culture.
