Psychodynamic and Psychoanalytic Supervision

In this comprehensive and informative book, Christine Driver provides a systematic overview of the key issues that a supervisor of psychodynamic and psychoanalytic therapy needs to consider and understand in order to work effectively and dynamically.

Psychodynamic and Psychoanalytic Supervision: A Contemporary Introduction examines key elements of the supervisory role, from container, contract, frames and boundaries to the dynamics of supervisory relationship, unconscious processes, including the reflection process and parallel process, evaluation and assessment and ethics. Driver considers the importance of learning and exploration for both supervisor and supervisee, and provides guidance on how to effectively conduct these sessions. She provides clinical examples of in person and online supervision and considers learning theory, neuroscience and systemic ideas to support the reader on their own journey. The systematic approach to the key dynamics are outlined to enable readers to generate understanding about the patient and their internal world, as well as the development of the work of the supervisee with their patients.

Part of the Routledge Introductions to Contemporary Psychoanalysis series, this book is a rich resource for all analysts, counsellors and therapists who work psychodynamically or psychoanalytically as supervisors or who are conducting supervision training.
