The Psychology of Coaching Team Sports: A Self-Help Guide

This book was written for the serious coach who wants to take his or her team's performance to the next level. In an easy-to-read style, the text examines recent research and offers practical guidelines to help coaches get the most from their athletes. Some of the issues explored include developing the coach/athlete relationship, improving team cohesion, controlling arousal and anxiety, implementing attention control training, and preventing staleness and burnout.

Dr. LARRY M. LEITH is a professor in the Faculty of Physical Education and Health at the University of Toronto. Larry teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in sport psychology, as well as a course in organizational behaviour. Larry has presented and published over one hundred articles relating to sport psychology. In his earlier career as an Athletic Director, Larry coached several team sports at the varsity level. He has also served as a sport psychology consultant to one of our national Olympic teams. Larry and his wife Nancy reside in Guelph, Ontario.
