Sheila Payne is Lecturer in Psychology and Health at the University of Southampton and does research in palliative care, psychosocial oncology and health psychology.

Jan Walker is Reader in Health Studies in the School of Health Community Studies of King Alfred's College of Higher Education, Winchester. Her current research interest are in chronic pain and psychosocial outcomes in health care.
