About the Author

Dr. Linda Young Landesman has almost 30 years of experience in social services, health care and emergency preparedness. Since 1996, she has been an assistant vice president at the New York city Health and Hospitals Corporation. She is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University and visiting faculty at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Public Health Practice Program where she teaches online. She has promoted an increased public health role in disaster preparedness and response since 1982 through development of national EMS response standards, and has been appointed to numerous disaster related advisory boards, including the WMD Committee of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Mailman School Center for Public Health Preparedness, and the Mailman School World Trade Center Evacuation study.
