Item description from seller

8vo. pp. 8. Unbound and unsewn as issued. Mr Wakeling, the vestry clerk of St. John's mentioned in the account, was in post in the 1840s. During the redevelopment of some houses in West Street, Smithfield, formerly the site of the Red Lion, a number of secret chambers and passages were found, some with human remains and housebreaking implements. This was reputed to be one of the houses of the notorious thief taker. The poem at the end relates to Jack Sheppard, Wild's former associate, who was arrested numerous times, escaping from prison each time, once breaking through chains, padlocks and six iron-barred doors! No copies traced.
