The Golden Age of Radio was host to some of the greatest Detective shows of all time. Here are two of the best! So put your thinking cap on and tag along with these gumshoes and try to crack the case before they do. And while youre at it, rediscover some of the greatest detectives of radio in this landmark collection from Radios Golden Age. The Golden Age of Radio lives again in two classic broadcasts digitally restored and remastered for your listening pleasure.
Casey, Crime Photographer The Treasure Cave with Staats Cottsworth:
Staats Cottsworth starred as Casey, a Morning Express newspaper photographer who loved to play detective. His job led him to crime scenes and his natural sense for news afforded him the opportunity to solve the crime. His favorite hang out was the Blue Note Café where he and Ethelbert the bartender and Caseys girlfriend/reporter Ann Williams pondered the evidence and sifted through clues. The series was based on characters created by George Harmon Coxe, came to radio in 1943, and lasted until 1955.
The Adventures of Ellery Queen- The Singing Rat with Ann Corio and Alfred McKelvrey:
The character of Ellery Queen was created by cousins Frederic Dannay and Manfred Lee over lunch one day in 1929. That led to over 40 novels, a film series, a long run on radio and eventually a hit TV show. The series followed Ellery Queen, a suave, deductive genius who was always one step ahead of the police, which incidentally was headed by his father Inspector Queen. On the radio series, the producers kept listeners involved in the plots by stopping the action near the end and having a panel of armchair detectives try to guess the solution. This gave listeners time to ponder the clues and make their own guess.
