First Edition. Folio. (28.5 X 19 cm.) Bound in 19th century full calf. Five raised bands. Morocco title label. Top edge heavily dust soiled. The text is very supple and only has a bit of light soiling. A superior copy that collates fine. The fourth edition of this work is occasionally to be found with Purchas's more famous work Hakluytus Posthumus in four volumes and added as the "fifth" volume. It is a completely different work, often disparaged by bibliographers for its poor writing. However, this work was the kernel which grew into Hakluyt's famous work. With the large bookplate for the Inner Temple Library and with their rubber stamps on the title page. Also with the lovely bookplate of polar collector Richard Campbell.
