Purpose and Admiration. A Lay Study of the Visual Arts.

This book attempts to give some connected view in plain language for the general reader, of those visible sides of human activity and pleasure which are included in the short, comprehensive, and confusing world, "art". These pages make no pretence to offer expert information or original criticism. They aim at helping in a general way the considerable and growing number of people who are naturally drawn to the arts, but feel at the same time how much more they might enjoy them, if they had some connecting ideas to go upon. Illustrated. 182 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions etc.).
