The PyongyangMetro (MTR) (Korean: pyeong-yang jihacheol) is the metro system in theNorth Korean capital Pyongyang. It consists of two lines: the Ch�llimaline runs from Kwangbok station in the southwest to Ragw�n station inthe northeast, and the Hy�ksin line runs north, from Puh�ng station onthe banks of the Taedong to Pulg�nby�l station. The two lines intersectat Ch�nu station. Daily ridership is estimated to be between 300,000 and700,000. Construction of the metro network started in 1968, and wasopened in September 1973 by former President Kim Il-Sung. In 1971, therewas a major accident during the construction of a tunnel under theTaedong River for the Ponghwa station.
