32 pages. 16.5 x 10 cm. An almanac with recipes along with advertisements for products such as Dr. Trask's Magnetic Ointment (lard, raisins, cut in pieces, and fine-cut tobacco, simmered together, pressed and strained), and fraudster "testimonials". These pamphlets were all the rage before the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906 put an end to the prolific practice of sham health products (not really, we still have them). The Ransom family business was started by Dr. David Ransom, in Buffalo NY, and later taken over by his sons. These almanac pamphlets were distributed yearly from 1874-1923. Rear cover printed: sold by J.M. Clarkl, Jr., South Middleboro, Mass. Dry Goods, Groceries. Covers lightly rubbed at spine, interior clean Orange illustrated wraps, with original string. Very good.
