VERY GOOD+ volume, part of the International Limited Edition, this being # 190 of 1,000 copies issued. Translated from the French. Originally published in 1849. Green cloth front cover has a few tiny white spots with barely worn corner tips (bottom corners more so). Paper spine title is chipped and sunned. Title page and next two pages have bent upper tips. The green spine crown cloth is split, (see photo) with spine foot just starting to fray. TEG has dulled. No foxing anywhere. Story is based on a true royal scandal that happened at the court of Louis XVI in the late 1700s. A clean, tight interior, no markings. Illustrated with five plates, all with tissue guards in place.
