The Question

THE QUESTION IS SUICIDE. Yes or no?

The Question explores the question of suicide, the various methods of confronting it, and the effectiveness of these methods. Every person has an obligation to themselves to find an Answer to the Question - for the sake of knowing, with critical certainty, whether their life is worth something more than immediate destruction. The deep questions of life, the hard questions of life, must be asked and answered without hesitation or excuses.

Every inadequate method of confronting the Question is mercilessly criticized. There are some who will try to dodge or ignore the Question; there are some who will try to write the Question off as trivially easy, as something that can be solved without thinking; there are some who will try to acquire a ready-made answer by attaching themselves to some ideology. None of these are satisfactory. The gravity of the Question cannot be overcome by such inadequate measures. What, then, is satisfactory? Remove these things, and what remains? What does a proper Answer look like? And what kind of life emerges once a proper Answer has been found and put into practice?
